I hope all who attended enjoyed our Australia Day event at Davidson Park. Our Ambassador for the day, William Chan, was a great young man, General Manager Derek Francis and myself spent a couple of hours with William after the event showing him the Solar Farm , Youth and Community Centre, Early Learning Centre, Showground, schools and other infrastructure around Nyngan. William was very impressed with our small town and thoroughly enjoyed his visit to Nyngan.
Seniors Week is rapidly approaching which is a major event on our calendar to recognise the contribution different people have made to the community. Seniors week will run from Monday 20th February to Friday 24th February 2023 and this year’s theme is ‘Celebrate Together’. Bogan Shire will be hosting a morning tea on Thursday 23rd February at 10am at the Youth and Community Centre, where the Senior Citizen of the Year will be announced. Nominations are now open and are available at Nyngan Library, Council offices, Foodwork’s and IGA. Nominations close on Monday 13th of February. A range of Seniors Week activities will be released shortly.
The asphalt re-sheeting in the main street is now complete and line marking and parking for the area will be done next. Grading crews are making the most of the dry weather doing maintenance grading and re-sheeting on various roads around the Shire. Council has received an additional $2.9 million from the $500 million allocation from the State government for repair work, although it is a long way off what will most likely be required, it certainly is a great help and Bogan Shire is greatly appreciative for this funding. Shire staff have also been busy on the walking trails doing flood repairs, and the free camping area at the upper weir has had repairs and the gravel road in has been made smooth and accessible, in addition to camping spot improvements.
This week sees the return of school for students, I would like to welcome any new teachers and students to our schools and community and hope 2023 is a great year for students in the Bogan Shire. Many thanks to Pastor Richard Milligan and others who assisted with the Paddling on the Bogan event, I’m sure everyone who participated had a great time.
I hope the next couple of weeks activities are enjoyable.
Mayor Glen Neill.
