COMPANION ANIMALS – CATS

Under the Companion Animals Act, domestic cats need to be microchipped and registered with Council.  There is a discount for animals which are desexed, and Council recommends this procedure, preventing unplanned kittens. Cats are able to roam beyond their owner’s premises but should wear collars with tags for identification. Cat owners are responsible for ensuring their pets do not persistently make a noise that unreasonably interferes with the peace, comfort or convenience of neighbours or repeatedly damages anything outside their property. Failure to comply may result in a “nuisance cat order” being issued to the owner, and fines do apply. Do not feed stray cats unless you intend on keeping and registering them as your own.  If not please contact Council on 6835 9000 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Further information of your obligations can be found at https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/public/dogs-cats/ or by contacting Council during business hours on 6835 9000. Council can only act on complaints if they are made in the appropriate manner - by telephone 6835 9000; email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
