Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Easter break, was lovely weather, though things are really starting to dry out in the district, we are in desperate need of some soaking rain.
Was great to see another big turnout for ANZAC Day, starting with the dawn service and again at the march and cenotaph ceremony. Congratulations to Girilambone and Hermidale school captains, Isla Jackson and Isabelle Smith on their speeches about Arthur VC Hall and also Fletcher Jackson who also spoke about his great grandfather and his diary entries from Gallipoli, made for a very sombre and surreal recount of what they went through during their service. Also, many thanks to everyone who helped in the organisation, the owners of the vehicles and horses and also to students, teachers, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, Rural Fire Service, Shire employees and all others that participated in the march, spoke and laid wreaths. This all honoured the remembrance for our past, current and returned service men and women. I would like to also say a huge thank you to the Nyngan RSL sub-Branch for their organisation and participation of Anzac Day in our shire.
The Nyngan Jockey Club held their annual Anzac Day race meet which was another successful event, congratulations to all involved, it is a great day out for families.
As a majority of you would have seen, the artwork on the water tower is progressing really well in Nyngan. It certainly stands out looking around town from many angles and it definitely catches your eye. This will look fantastic once completed and I’m sure it will be another great attraction for Nyngan in the future.
Once again, a warning to all dog owners, you have an obligation to have all dogs registered contained and enclosed in your yards, there has been reports of livestock being mauled on the outskirts of Nyngan, this is simply unacceptable. It is people’s livelihood being affected by other people’s negligence to pets. Please make sure your animals are registered and contained to avoid fines or replacement cost of people’s livestock.
At the council meeting held on Wednesday 23 April 2025, there was an activity report presented to Council for the Nyngan War Memorial Pool over the summer period. The swimming pool had a great intake of patrons and usage throughout the summer period and is a testament to Scott Bartley and his management of the facility, great work Scott.
