Public Notices

The majority of the district received some rainfall a fortnight ago, with much more needed to make any significant difference on the current drought conditions. Most people throughout our Shire are desperately in need of heavy rain fall to fill up depleted water supplies, in addition to helping feed supplies before winter sets in.

It was disappointing to hear last week that the government has pulled the pin on the Inland Rail Project - Melbourne to Brisbane. Especially after many years of planning, including encouraging people to build businesses to help with the construction of the rail and supporting smaller towns along the rail lines economy and freeing up heavy freight impacts on our roads. The government has said it has made this decision due to the exceeding cost. I’m more than sure that if they looked further into Net Zero funded projects such as solar, wind farms that the cost of these would be far more significant and less economical.  However, the Net Zero projects will more than likely continue without any prejudice, to keep climate change activists and the inexperienced people helping make these decisions and also the people voting, to take away not only the agricultural people of our region’s rights, but the everyday citizens within our towns.

The Annual 133rd Nyngan Show will take place this weekend Sunday 17th and Monday 18th May 2026 which will be sure to be another huge event. Fizzics Education will be joining the show this year providing entertainment for young and old, with interactive mind-boggling science demonstrations. The Nyngan Toyota Rodeo will be on Sunday afternoon at 5:30pm. There will also be sheep races and sheep auctions on Monday at 2pm. Fiona Nash will be the guest speaker for the opening ceremony for the show. Fiona is best known for her time in Federal politics throughout the years. Prior to entering politics Fiona was a farmer in regional Australia. There will be lots of fun activities this year from a hot dog eating competition, fashion parades, local talent throughout the pavilions on display, food stalls, dog jumps, shearing, horse events, cattle and poultry, flowers, cakes and much more, as well as sideshows with all the rides, games and of course show bags.

Councillors and Shire staff had a successful visit to Shire villages recently with lots of positive consultations with community members, with a follow up meeting later in the year for progression of projects.

In the next fortnight road works throughout the Shire will consist of undertaking heavy patching on sections of the Mitchell Highway and Arthur Hall VC Way, grading Whiterock Road and patch grading of Kallara Road.

On Thursday 28 May, 8.00am to 10.30am The Bogan River Bushcare Group will meet at Rotary Park for a litter pickup session in the area. All are welcome to come along.

Mayor Glen Neill
