I wish to begin this week’s column with a special thank you to the Nyngan Show Society Committee, President Laughlin Ross, Secretary Bec George, Treasurer Sarah Kennedy, other committee members, Patrons Betty Jackson and Paul Carter for their ongoing tireless effort in putting together another successful Nyngan Show.
This Nyngan Show and the grounds have had a reputation for many years of being one of the best in the western area. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed and taken the time to be a part of making it so successful throughout the years, whether you are exhibitors, stall holders, school students, food venders, committee members, judges, stewards and Bogan Shire staff. Every contribution has been a part of the success. To add to this, The Speed Shear competition saw 27 entries and the auction of 10 donated lambs raised $5,850 for our local wonderful Nyngan Can Assist branch. Thank you everyone for your support.
While we never like to wish the rain away this year’s show attendance was definitely impacted by the rain along with events planned throughout the show, however it may be the start of some better weather and more rain forecast, hopefully we can see the fuel prices drop too. The resilience of our Nyngan community always shines through and next year’s show will come back bigger and better. I believe also the last amount of rain we received has slightly increased the water supply in our small village catchments.
The Nyngan Pony Club had a ‘RIDEATHON’ on Saturday 23rd May 2026, where they saddled up and rode 46km from Nyngan to Hermidale. They are also helping to raise funds for 4 of the young local talented senior riders who have been invited to Pennsylvania in the USA for a three-week elite training program with former Olympian Phillip Dutton who grew up in Hermidale.
Last Thursday 21st May 2026 the Draft Budget was put forward at the Bogan Shire Council Extraordinary Meeting, which outlined council forecast spending. The Operational Plan and Budget (2026/2027) provide detailed information on the Council's specific actions and projects that will be implemented for the year for each service including Capital Works, Rates, Fees and Charges. The draft budget is available for public display on the Bogan Shire Council website.
In the next fortnight in the Bogan Shire, we can expect the road works of grading on Whiterock Road, patch grading on Kallara Road and grading on Warrah Road.
