Mayors Column - 14th May 2026

The majority of the district received some rainfall a fortnight ago, with much more needed to make any significant difference on the current drought conditions. Most people throughout our Shire are desperately in need of heavy rain fall to fill up depleted water supplies, in addition to helping feed supplies before winter sets in.

Nyngan Waste Facility and Kerbside Collections - Easter Weekend

Bogan Shire Council wishes to remind Nyngan residents and the general public that the Nyngan Waste Facility will be closed on Good Friday, 3 April 2026. The facility will be open as usual on Thursday 2 April, Saturday and Sunday 4-5 April 2026. Residents and business owners are also reminded that due to the Easter Monday public holiday, Monday 6 April 2026, their kerbside collections of general waste and recycling will be picked up the next day. We are desperately in need of heavy rain, with the rest of the country getting record breaking rain it seems to have forgotten how to in our region. Dubbo region is also lacking significant rain fall with the percentage of Burrendong Dam down to about 30%. Council staff continue to communicate with NSW Fisheries about the changes required at the Monkey Bridge Crossing to change the culverts from round pipes to square culverts. Nominations are now open for Bogan Shire Senior Citizen of the Year and will be closing on Friday 6th March 2026. Nomination forms are available using a link on the Bogan Shire website, paper copies are also available at the front counter of the Bogan Shire Council Chambers and Bogan Shire Library.

POUND PADDOCK SUBDIVISION – SALE OF LOTS Bogan Shire Council has nearly completed Stage 1 of the new residential subdivision on the “Pound Paddock” opposite the Nyngan Showground, which has been developed in response to long-standing community feedback. The Annual Nyngan Community Christmas Event is on this Sunday 6 December at the Nyngan Showgrounds starting at 5:30pm.
