Winter kicked off for the long weekend bringing in icy conditions, along with isolated rain in heavier patches over our shire which has brought relief for some of our area. Our villages and water catchments weren’t as lucky and are still needing significant downpours to top up the water catchments and provide water to the villages. Our Victorian and South Australian neighbours are still in a terrible condition of drought and, whilst they have received some aid, the government seems to consider foreign aid support to be more significant than our own farmers which is truly terribly disappointing, not only to their current situation and livelihoods but to future generations of farming in our country.

The Honourable Ron Hoenig Local Government Minister and Local MP Roy Butler will be visiting Nyngan on Friday the 20th of June 2025 to meet with myself, councillors, General Manager and senior staff. This will be great opportunity to catch up with the latest happenings for our local government, it is always insightful to hear Roy’s updates on many pressing issues and solutions happening in our area.

Great to see car parking area at the front of mining village and toilet block at Jack Hargraves Park sealing it defiantly makes the area more presentable.

Just a reminder that It is a responsibility of individuals to make sure rubbish loads are covered efficiently. There has been a significant amount of rubbish being lost between town and waste facility which has caused a build-up along the road and Council has had to clean it up, this is totally unacceptable. We ask that you please take more care if delivering rubbish to the waste facility.

Maintenance Grading is continuing around the shire with resheeting of Tubbavilla Rd, resheeting a section of Monkey Bridge Road, grading of Pangee Road, commencement of shoulder grading on the Barrier Hwy, tree trimming on Mitchell Hwy (north) and Barrier Hwy as well as continuation of the construction of a footpath on Moonagee Street.

Council is also working with the Duck Creek Committee to get the racecourse and showgrounds up to speed for the upcoming annual Duck Creek Races next month.

Mayor Glen Neill
